Nothing happens. I don't see the option to open Google Calendar either in the Tools menu or in the tab bar.

I installed this because it can connect to Google Tasks, which the inbuilt calendar function of Thunderbird cannot. However, it does this in a completely useless way. The tasks are simply displayed in one long and undifferentiated list. Nor do any tasks with a date or time actually appear on the calendar. In other words, the integration with Google Tasks is so inadequate as to be completely useless, which means that this add-on offers nothing that isn't already built into Thunderbird, and is therefore pointless.

This made Thunderbird freeze and then keep freezing every time I started it up so . In the end I had no alternative but to delete my ~/.thunderbird folder and start again, including re-syncing several hours worth of IMAP data.
