TB Header Tools Extension
Rated 3 out of 5 stars
As for Thunderbird 3, there is an experimental version for Thunderbird 3 on the mentioned page: http://forum.addonsmirror.net/index.php?showtopic=1906 (near the bottom of the main text, pointing to http://forum.addonsmirror.net/ext/extensions/T/TB_Header_Tools/TB_Header_Tools_0.7-Rod_Whiteley-tb3.xpi ).
I have tested the TB_Header_Tools_0.7-Rod_Whiteley-tb3.xpi with some releases of Thunderbird 3 in order to see whether perhaps the handling of IMAP has improved (by virtue either of a newer TB or of the new version of the addon); and here I report the results to help others decide whether they want count on this addon:
1) the 20090601 snapshot (thunderbird-3.0-alt1.20090601) on one system did fine with attachments in the modified messages over IMAP;
2) on a second system with thunderbird-3.0-alt1.20090601, it spoiled the attachments; so the success in 1) was just a coincidence (perhaps, due o more aggressive look-ahead caching that happened there)
3) on the second system with thunderbird-3.0-alt1.20090817, it is not working at all, with the error message "GetDBView is not defined" on line 286 in hdrtools.js (this can be seen in the error console).
As mentioned in other comments, the addon also spoils attachments over IMAP in TB 2.
So, no hope for editing headers over IMAP, unless we fix this problem.
