I don't have a problem with downloading a beta release, but judging by the state of my menu bar in Thunderbird 1.0b1 should not be a beta release (alpha maybe).
My File and Edit menus do not have entries on the menu bar and the Options menu item is missing. Question is, will they be restored when I remove Lightening?
On a positive note I can sync with my Google calendar without an Add-on.

Sounds like it will be the perfect solution for my needs, once it works with Thunderbird 3.0 :-)
