The workaround below (revert to 0.32 tempo) works. If you're encountering issues with access to the other than the primary calendar in your account you need to go to your google calendar settings page and get the funky Calendar ID from there, it looks like blablahblah34242@group.calendar.google.com .
That last step tripped me up until I linked throught eh CalDEV google help page to the page that referenced this need.
