Since the update today the small icon no longer appears in the taskbar thunderbird can you tell me why and can you help me

Try right-clicking on the toolbar/statusbar area and select Customize... You should see a ReminderFox or ribbon icon that you can drag anywhere you want. Can you try that and see if that works any better?
