Works perfectly. Pointed the add-on to where my ffmpeg.exe was, added the add-on button to my toolbar and restarted Firefox.
No problems downloading 1080p / high quality audio. No problems with ffmpeg combining the audio + video files (except for the known issue of needing to say 'yes' to overwrite existing file in this version).
Thanks for your review...an update should be ready later today.

This add-on performs as advertised.
Thank you for creating it.
Thanks for the 5 star review!!

Forget it. It doesn't work. The icon doesn't show when starting any Youtube video. Have installed FFmpeg correctly and using Windows 7 and FF 29.0.1
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (5.2.1.1-signed).The program does work, you could just click on the "Customize" button in Firefox to drag the CYS icon back to your toolbar. Your "review" is actually a bug report, however, in this section, such posts are unwelcome, as described above - our support email address is meant for reporting bugs.
We are proud of our work, and frankly, we feel your 1-star rating is entirely unfair and uncalled for. Will you, please, write a proper review in stead? Thanks

Thanx for creating such a great youtube downloader add on, sad i found it only recently and not before. I usually love downloading youtube videos in 480p and CYS gives me that quality, so thanks again. But i have just one question as how can i download 480p videos through CYS using idm (internet download manager). As it converts and downloads fine using firefox inbuilt download manager but i don't know how can i get to download the full 480p youtube video (audio+video) through the 480p link copied from CYS option using idm. As when i copied the 480p link from CYS option for any youtube video page and put that link in idm, idm downloads the video in an unrecognized file. Since i use idm majorly to download files, it would nice to guide me how can i download youtube videos in 480p using CYS links in idm.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (5.2.1.1-signed).Hi, thanks for the nice review.
Frankly, CYS is not meant to be a front-end for IDM (or any other download manager). With the changes YT made to 480p and 1080p+ videos, it makes little sense using downloaders. On download completion, there are additional steps to take to merge separate video and audio tracks into whole MP4/WebM videos. Downloaders will not know to do this for you - CYS does.
If having to use the command line does not scare you, however, CYS gives you the option to save video/audio links to the clipboard. For DASH formats - ones with separate video and audio links - CYS copies both links to clipboard at once, thus you will need to paste them into an editor, then re-copy and paste the 2 links into IDM separately. Then you will need to merge the separate tracks into complete MP4/WebM videos manually, using FFmpeg on the command line.
Thanks again, and please, feel free to spread the word so others can find CYS earlier!

Really great job !
But i want to suggest you to add some new features. Indeed, after saving any video i add title, author name and original tags of this video (which are include in the HTLM tag meta "keyword") in the metadata of the saved video. I saw it can be possible to add this metada in video by using the '-metadata' option in ffmpeg.
For exemple : ffmpeg -i -metadata title="Ran ran ru"-metadata author="McDonaldo"-metadata year="25 jan 2014" -metadata comment="music,song,video,burger,mcdonald,etc" output.mp4
Please take notice of this idea and thank for this tool ;-D
Absolutely, we could add this as a new feature, with a checkbox in Options. Look out for it in a future update. Thanks for the review!

Awesome plugin! Is there anyway you can add a batch download function? Anyhow, thanks for the good work!

I have a slow internet connection 1mb/s.
So when google decided to switch to this craptastic DASH format people like me are pretty doomed now. We can't watch hd, because YT decides for us. What kind of attitude is that?! They should learn from vimeo.
Anyway, CYS is our saviour, because now at least i can wait for the video to download and watch HD in my player. So thank you guys!
ps. whats the difference between fmt136 and fmt22?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84AiE46erkk
both are mp4 but but have different filesizes
Which one should give me the best picture quality, i dont care for audio in this particular example
Fmt136 is the DASH format video, while fmt22 is the non-DASH version. Considering that the audio track is of ever so slightly higher quality in fmt136 than in fmt22, and that the fmt136 file is significantly smaller, fmt22 is expected to provide higher image quality than fmt136. Thanks for the 5 star review!!

As you requested here's the videos I tried to download.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AhGj4oisfU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9veCjE_LgA
^These are the ones that did not mux
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vKM1hL0yDQ
^this is the one that did
I needed these for a video I'm working on
Hope this helps in the troubleshooting process
Thanks for that information. We tested all three links and all 3 muxed successfully (downloaded simultaneously). When the 2nd file is finished downloading, muxing will take several minutes to begin. This is where you may feel it has failed but it has not. Remember, the files you are downloading are huge, 3hrs, 5hrs and 8hrs long!!! It takes some time but all 3 files will complete.
If you still need help, please contact us at the support email, thanks for your review.

Works with 4k videos after downloading the ffmpeg installer. N00b mistake select the directory ffmpeg is in instead of the file itself.

The above message pops up on some videos when I try to download mp3 version.
Thus I downgraded the addon from 5 stars to 4.
Clearly you are confusing CYS with another add-on. First of all, CYS could never generate a “This Video Contains restricted content” message because it’s not built into the program!!! Second, in the email that you sent us, you describe the add-on that you are using as having an orange “Convert to MP3” button. There is no such button in CYS!!! All conversions occur automatically when you select a format from the drop down list.

Hello!today installed your v5.0.7 add-on.it looks promising very.now issue I want to post.
1. download speed of DASH is low, like actually playing. my guess, it cant be otherwise
2. when I early do terminate download, only video stream stops!audio continues download even if I close actual TAB. only restart can stop audio.
EDIT: after I disabled option "For Dash formats, hide audio file.." 2nd problem disappear!!
1.The next update will include faster download speeds of DASH formats.
2.Yes, by default, when downloading DASH videos, the audio is hidden from the Download window. You can unhide the audio in Options> Download tab.
Thanks for your review.

Great converter! Lots of conversion options. However, for some reason, all the files I convert from youtube get saved as tmp files.
Then I can't open them in windows media player. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the 5 stars! Please make sure you have downloaded FFmpeg from our site, as the binaries there have been tested and are known to work well.
Also, conversion is a fairly time-consuming process, please make sure you give it enough time to complete. On an average 2GHz CPU, you should calculate with 2-3 seconds of conversion time for *every minute* of video length. For feature-length films this will take several minutes.
If this does not help, we need you to give us more information:
- your operating system, and version
- Firefox version
- FFmpeg version
- the YT video link and exact format you are having problems with
Please contact us at cytsaver@hotmail.com, thanks.

Now I have specified the ffmpeg folder as you wrote, and it tries to download and save as MP4, but the ffmpeg version is too new for my computer and it can't start and finish the video. So the downloaded temporary files are deleted automatically and I still have no working MP4 video... :-(
PS: I did't find an address for support emails in your profile
OK, we have successfully guided you to set up FFmpeg with CYS properly, you can see that CYS does its job perfectly, it downloads the files and runs FFmpeg - but your computer is not up-to-date enough to run FFmpeg? And you still feel our work only merits 1 star - in what Universe is this fair??
Seriously, we provide something of value here for free, with no strings attached. A bare minimum would be for users to respect the work we do, by being fair to us, and by reading the helpful information right in front of their eyes, so that we can spend our limited time with developing the program.
The information you missed is explained and illustrated on our web site. The links to our web site, FAQ, and support email address are to the right of the top of the description section on this add-on page.
On your specific problem: please, send us an email to our support address, and tell us your operating system and CPU. Short of upgrading your CPU, you might get lucky with a not-so-old FFmpeg version that can already mux DASH files and still runs on your system.

480p and 1080p+ are only available as video streams only with separate audio streams of different quality.
This addon does not make it available to download them.
Please try v5.0.4, thanks.

I don't know if 'Youtube' is the problem or this add-on is.
I tried this add-on and 'Download Helper' too.
First, i tried to download "480p FLV" files from 'Youtube' with this add-on and "DH" but i can't, they don't have "480 FLV" on their download option...
So Please @ cg-addons, can you fix it?
Other than that everything is fine...
Due to recent YouTube changes, 1080p and 480p options are no longer available for download. An update is in the works...please bare with us, thanks...

Works AMAZING. Been looking for a HQ audio youtube converter. Being sensitive to music, I hated all the low quality mp3 addons, glad I found this.Thank you for such a great add-on! God bless~

Really Awesome!
Heres a tutorial on how to get this baby runnin:
You need FFMpeg:
http://www.ffmpeg.org/download.html
Go there and chose the appropriate build, and download it. You will end up with a file called simply FFMpeg. Just put it somewhere you can find it. Doesn't need to be anywhere special, I put mine in a Folder called FFmpeg, and placed that folder in my music folder. Im assuming you already installed the plugin, so start Firefox, right click on the newly formed addon in the toolbar(i had to go to a youtube video for it to reveal itself), and click the options button. Under media conversion options, click specify location, and navigate to the folder, you DO NOT NEED to have the FFMpeg highlighted, so its OKAY if its grey, just navigate to the FOLDER and click OPEN. Boom. Now assuming you downloaded the proper FFMpeg codec from that downloads page. All should be Well. Great Plug-IN!
You can also download FFmpeg from our site at http://www.completeyoutubesaver.com/ConverterMac.html
-Thanks for the great reveiw and tutorial!!

Hi,
I'm using Mac 10.6.8 and Firefox 14.0.1 and having trouble installing ffmeg which can be recognised by Complete YouTube Saver.
I download the 64bit ffmeg zip file which (after decompression) installs a Unix Executable file called ffmpeg into the Downloads folder.
I doubleclick this file which prompts Terminal to open which then lists the steps it has taken - but nothing else happens.
Normally doubleclicking a .zip will expand into a folder - but not in this case.
After all this I still don't have an ffmpeg file on my computer where I can point Complete YouTube Saver to where it's located
Hope somebody can help as the reviews for CYS look very good.
The Unix Executable file called ffmpeg is FFmpeg, you have it already extracted on your system, so you have completed the most difficult part. Now you just need to point CYS at your "Downloads folder", by clicking on the "Specify FFmpeg location..." button in the CYS Options window, and all conversion options will be enabled. Alternatively, you may move the FFmpeg executable to a different folder, in which case, again, you will need to point CYS at the folder containing the FFmpeg executable. Please, let us know of your progress. Thanks!
