Works a treat. One thing I can´t find is "Automatically add outgoing email adresses to my:" under Thunderbird - Options - Composition - Adressing.
I only get to choose between my Thunderbird adress books and not the ones from CardBook. Am I missing something?
Keep up the good work!
thanks :O) (outgoing email collection is in CardBook preferences, first tab ;O)

This AddOn fixes a huge gap in TBs features. Works perfect with several accounts and Nextcloud. A HUGE THANKS to Philippe who took the challenge. He's responsive in his forum and fixes bugs quickly. What else could we demand for? Well, INTEGRATION @thunderbird-devs !

Congratulations for creating such an useful extension!
But once installed the performance of Thunderbird, while navigating between emails, even scrolling, goes significantly down.
Is it possible to create a performance setting to uncouple CardBook (hooks) from viewing emails?
RE: After reading the last entry. (My French is not very well.) I've seen your comment to this issue. THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM!

Note : Avec la 20.7 le logiciel fonctionne parfaitement.
Màj : la version 21.8 est parfaitement fonctionnelle avec la modification des préférences indiqué par le développeur. Merci !
In CardBook preferences, first tab, check “Unique source for contacts”, if this is not enough, in Thunderbird preferences, Display tab, then Advanced tab, uncheck “Show only display name for people in my address book”.

In version TB 52.3.0 (32-bit) and CardBook 21.8 is still a problem with importing vCard - it is not possible to import a .vcf file to any folder in CardBook:
1st way: in CB - right mouse on folder - import from file - select file ...and nothing happened;
2nd way: in any explorer outside - open in a program - choose program - Thunderbird ....and contact will be import to DEFAULT folder of TB (default address book), not into the CardBook. And is impossible to copy it to CB.
edit:
- tried to switch version of vCard between 3.0 and 4.0 in settings - nothing happened;
edit 2:
- tried to check box "unique source for contacts" in settings of CB - nothing;
- tried to import .vcf file exported by CardBook - OK, imported without errors;
- tried to import .vcf file generated by another source, e.g. Android 6.0.1 - nothing imported.
result:
- .vcf files version 2.1 (e.g. generated by Android 6) are not supported by CardBook.
- Thunderbird can import .vcf version 2.1 into address book, but export only version 2.1.
- in CB only version 3.0 and 4.0 are supported.
may you send me your vcf file : cardbook.thunderbird @ gmail.com (otherwise check the CardBook log)

I've been looking for a way to back up my main address book, which is currently stored in Google. While there is a plugin to sync the main address book with Google, the CardBook blew me away. I like that it is standards based and syncs with Google Contacts as well as CardDAV providers out of the box. Wonderful! A must-have add-on. I think this is my long-term solution for the personal address book.

The addon seems to bring TB really a little bit closer to CardDav and co applications. But after I try it some weeks, Thunderbird becomes slower and slower how long the add on is activated. Every Mail which we are choosing needs 5s to open and close... The "name" solution in the TB properties didn't work... it is a petty

An excellent and very versatile add-on which allows also import. However, decoding of Shift-JIS character set stopped working in one of the upgrades so the fields get garbled when importing from .csv or .vcf. Somtimes, the import menu item is greyed out too (resolved by restarting Thunderbird).

I'm *very* impressed by how well Cardbook works. This is a way better addressbooks system than the unmaintained legacy addressbooks Thunderbird has now.
The earlier reviews claiming it doesn't work are wrong or outdated, possibly referring to a bug in an earlier version (21.5?). I'm using 21.8 and it works great.
I was using Sogo Connector, but it was slow and buggy, and is barely maintained (if at all). For example, Sogo Connector would only sync the first two email addresses for a contact. Cardbook has no such limitations.
Cardbook should be bundled with Thunderbird by default (like Lightning), it's great and works perfectly with my Nextcloud setup.

After the latest update which happened automatically this addon has stopped working.
It removed my address book and the shared does not even sync.
I run on Thunderbird 52.xxx and the addon should work up to 55.xxx, but as said. The menus are greyed out.
Until Yesterday it worked all fine, but today it is full stop. I cannot use my 900 addresses on the CarDAV server.
All menus are greyed out and cannot be accessed. When I try to add the old address book no new address books can be added. The shared address book is not sycnhronising either.
I have this on a different computer and it works fine on the same version of Thunderbird.
I use the OpenSync on the Android and there it works fine too.
______________________________
All is solved, I had a corrupt local DB for the CarDAV/Cardbook and I reinstalled Thunderbird and the addons.
All is working fine now with no problems.
The addon Cardbook is very good and I do agree on that Thunderbird should use this as their standard Address book.
CardBook works with Th. 55... may you contact me by email (you surely have indexedDB errors in your console....)
may you try the very last version (21.8) ?

After 30 years of programming computers, I simply cannot get this thing to work. Importing an existing .VCF often fails. When it does succeed, categorizing the contacts results in duplication of the contact. Even deleting and reinstalling Cardbook does not help. This time the deletion is for good.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (21.7).I'm very interested by your problems, may you email me a test case which is failing ? (cardbook.thunderbird@gmail.com)

"Fantastic support, Philippe is very responsive!"
- Yes he is, i had some troubleshooting he solved with me next day!
Very nice AddOn many usefull functions!
- Backup / Export / Import all contacts to vcf File is a very nice feature!
- Duplicate search with merge functionality helps me to clean up database!
Synology CardDAV server has no comfortable export function yet. So i am glad about this AddOn because it grabs all the Data!
(e.g. Android Contacts App does not grab all data! 1,3MB VS 200 KB on export to VCF O_O)

CardBook is the missing link to finally tie TB straight in with cloud and phone, fantastic!!
* Reliable syncing to NextCloud: While inverseSOGO gave me lots of trouble, CardBook worked out of the box.
* Standards compliant: No information is lost when syncing with your phone. In contrast, the standard AB has a second address line which is ignored upon sync.
* Convenient: Full text search, groups are accessible with one click and map into android [in DavDroid set per-card-categorie]
* Allows calling Skype without Telify AddOn [under preferences-internet communication add Phone Code:skype Protocol:skype]
* Make sure to configure in Thunderbird preferences, Display tab, uncheck the last option : "Show only display name for people in my address book". Otherwise it was very laggy for me [see SOLVED - 21.4 and 21.5 makes Thunderbird extremely laggy]
* Fantastic support, Philippe is very responsive!

I've only played around with this for a few minutes so I can't speak to stability yet but at first glance this is excellent. I'd go so far as to recommend this replace the default Thunderbird address book. I was using AddressBook Tab but think this is going to replace it!
I appreciate some neat features like Mail Popularity (similar to XOBNI's feature) and Categories (great batching feature!).
I found this plugin looking for some way to link related contacts similar to the way Outlook does. Categories does the trick! And it appears you can edit contacts in CB independent of TB's address book.
Will social media links for contacts be added soon?
Will social media links for contacts be added soon?
--> it's already possible to have direct phone calls or direct jabber. for this in CardBook preferences, check the tab "Internet Communications" (fourth tab)... hope to have correctly understood :O)

Thanks Philippe for your help - problem solved.
######
For anyone´s reference:
Scrolling in E-mail-list is extremely laggy.
Could trace this problem back to this Add-in because after disabling this add-on everything smooth.
Gone back to v 21.3 - everything smooth again.
Windows 10, Thunderbird 52.2.1
Love this add-on - please make it useable again. Thank you!
in Thunderbird preferences, Display tab, uncheck the last option : "Show only display name for people in my address book" ;O)
