I really like this, but I wish it were easier to customize. The options menu has a "services" tab and an "engines" tab, but no apparent way to move these ostensibly available engines into the "services" tab.
Other than that, a brilliant concept. An update just might bring in that 4th star.

It shows on the contextual menu in a COMPOSE window but not a READ window. So there is a bug in there somewhere. This is the only word look-up for TB (many on Firefox) so I would mark this issue CRITICAL. Otherwise, great work!

I started to use this extension recently on TB2 to look up words in emails. I now am using TB3 B4 but SearchWith doesn't show in the CONTEXT POP-UP MENU for TB3 B4 :(

Makes no sense why it does not work in a email reading window - If I am reading a email article and want to find the definition of a word it does not show up in the contextual menu - would it be possible to make this add-on show up in Thunderbird system wide?

I tried posting to the discussion alias but no luck. Looks like new posts have not been accepted since February.
A couple of issues with Thunderbird
- This plugin does not work if the search engine is SSL (e.g. our bug database). You get CERT errors. That's unfortunate!
- The plugin ONLY works in the Compose window. Not in message pane or the reader window.
Otherwise, works really nice. I've used it for years and like it a lot.

This should be included in Firefox. It's simple, yet brilliant.

Not so that Auto Context surpasses SearchWith. Auto Context has that pesky little popup interfering with the windows right-click context menu. SearchWith INTEGRATES with the windows context menu. Furthermore, SearchWith allows a user to completely customize any search routine, regardless of whether it is in the search bar or not.
SearchWith can incorporate any search that you can run in Windows.. All you have to do is configure the engine.. This is easily accomplished by running a search on the website you're wishing to utilize and copying the content of the address bar into SearchWith - minus the term(s) you searched for. Anything that is in the address bar before your search term goes on the first line of SearchWith's Edit Engine, in "search address". And anything occurring after your search term goes on the second line, "other options"
Voila.. Engine created. Then we can organize the search engines in any order and all will have an associated icon. The context menu is thus created perfectly for any user who takes a little time to make his/her own

This add-on is exactly what i need, but it needs an export and import settings feature. I made lots of changes and don't want to do all the work again in different computers.

Add an option to show search results in a foreground tab and I'll be using this extenson instead of ConQuery: I like the possibility of searching with quotes.

I was looking for an addon that can:
1. search highlighted text via right-click
2. let me customize what search engine to use
3. let me choose from my already installed search plugins
And I tried many addons. They all had some flaw, whether they were not really customizable and/or didn't let me choose from my already installed searches.
"Search With" is the only addon that does the job. So I don't understand the critics. Maybe a competitor?
Anyway, good job! Thanks!
EDIT:
Some suggestions for the user interface:
1. Please add an option to open search in a foreground tab. At the moment it only opens in the background and this is annoying when you want to go there immediately.
2. Management of the services. When adding a service there is a little link to "More engines", thus opening a second subwindow. So then the user has a stack of three dialog windows. It would be better to have one window pane for editing a service on which on the right side it displays the available engines. And then the user can just select in the list of engines on the right side and add them to the left side. Would be much more user-friendly and less confusing.
Thanks for reading!

This addon does what it says, but could have a lot of improvements, e.g. feature-wise. For example:
- there is no option to assign a keyboard shortcut to run a search.
- when you search with the "&", for instance "Smith, Johnson & Kowalsky" the search is cut off before the ampersand and the query is run for "Smith, Johnson." This is a problem given the commonality of the "&" sign in the English language, especially in the names of companies.

mmm.. so many bad comments in a roll? actually I find it really useful. I tried the other 2 add-on mentioned. Advance Url builder only recognize search url ending with "q=". But some sites uses "q/" instead, which it fails to work with. As with Context Search, I quite like it, except for the fact that it does not allow me to search with address bar. Sometimes a url is typed out in plain text and can't be clicked on. So what I do with SearchWith is I just highlight the whole url address and then select search with Address Bar to bring me to that site. This is more useful than people realize. well, at least that was the case for me. I agree the interface isn't user friendly and takes a while to get used to. It probably could do with some improvement. But after configuring all the search engines, I barely have to touch that interface anymore.. lol..
so, thanks for this add-on and continue to update yo! :)

The worst user interface I have encountered in years. I almost want to recommend it, just because it's so hilariously bad.

As it is now, this extension requires too much work from my part. I don't want to organize my search engines as "services" to search by (it is a nice option that should not be removed though).
This extension needs to be simpler: show the list of search engines that I have (organized the same way I organized them next to my URL bar), and let me use it. It shuold only save me the step of having to copy/paste the word in my search bar and then choosing the search engine.
For multi-search engine searches, maybe a cheack button next to each SE and a "go" button would be enough (if possible from a context menu.
