This add-on has really saved me a lot of time. I converted from Windows Live Mail and have been using this add-on to delete the hoards of duplicate emails I had.

Almost everybody has several e-mail accounts and it is usual senders to send the message in both e-mail accounts of the recipient. Thus a lot of messages are duplicates, but they are not in the same inbox.
Is there any plan for this addon to remove duplicates searching in different accounts???
I have several accounts and the plugin searches and finds duplicates for messages from all accounts. Can you write me an eMail (you can find it here https://addons.mozilla.org/de/thunderbird/user/3643/) and describe the steps you do and the problems that occur?

I'm rather upset. You really do not get what I mean? You show me three options: left click to display messages, right click show info, double click change flag, right?; The first option did not do thing it supposed to do... I clicked on duplicate emails (one and only one left click), I looked around but no messages (the content of email) displayed ...I wonder if this is a bug or there is no option for seeing it inside message pane

Unfortunately, I do not see an error message in Thunderbirds Error Console. So this makes it hard to debug. I try to find a solution. Thanks for the bug report.

This plug in reaffirms why Mozilla is better than Microsoft!!
I had created duplicate messages by accident in MS Outlook (via Exchange connection) and had 1K+ useless copies cluttering my search results.
This add-on was easy to install and with just a couple clicks I moved all my duplicates to the trash folder! (Note step 2 is to empty trash folder.)
I tried deleting messages one by one in Outlook, but after half an hour figured it is not a manual job. Luckily I had Thunderbird too! :-)
P.s. Similar plug-in for Outlook is $24! :-/ So I am so happy this is free, so I was glad to send the developer a contribution!

Finds the duplicate messages in folders and sub-folders... but doesn't delete any messages...

Works nicely with TB3.1.1 on UBuntu and Windows. Finds all dupes where the 'alternate' misses.

Leider wird nicht der volle Pfadnamen eines Ordners angezeigt, sondern nur der Basis-Name.eines Ordners.
Dadurch ist die Entscheidung, welches Duplikat gelöscht werden soll, praktisch unmöglich.

It does remove duplicates from gmail IMAP mailboxes, but I took off one star because erroneously reports that it didn't find any duplicates.

Removes also from IMAP Folders. Something that "Remove Duplicate Messages Alternative" not does. But it does not show the emails when U click on the lines of duplicates listed

I had 1 GB duplicates and wanted to keep those duplicates with attachment - no problem!
Although it also happened that - selecting dirs and subdirs - some of the subdirs went empty
Anyway - that was not a big deal

I tried to remove duplicate emails. I highlighted about 15 folders at once and did the whole process. It erased about 5,000 of 10,000 messages. When I took a closer look, all messages from sub folders had been deleted entirely!! Now I have to scour 5,000 messages and put them back into their sub folders. Does anyone know an easier way to do so? I wish I never found this stupid add-on!!

This add on did exactly what it said it would and found and deleted about 20k duplicate messages! I'm now back under my corporate Exchange mailbox size limit! The default settings worked easily and it parsed through all those messages quickly. I did have to run it more than once because it didn't seem to entirely clean out a sub-dir under my inbox. But it worked after that. I also have no real way of verifying that it didn't delete too many messages as I can't really look at 20k messages to check. I cross-checked a couple and I also haven't noticed anything missing yet. Great add-on! I used version 0.1.10 of this add-on on T-bird 2.0.0.23.

I had some issues with this add-on, but the alternate worked. Specifically, I was trying to exclude the sent folder. There was an option to exclude it here, but the add-on did not respect that setting.
Installed the alternate, and that worked.
Don't waste you time with this version the options in the Alternate are much better.
