Would be good to have an option to have *no* alert at all for junk, non-urgent email etc. I hoped this might provide such an option but AFAICS it only adds a sound to the usual 'Blonk!'

I have 3 account all set-up for alerts and sounds which works fine unless mail is received on opening/starting thunderbird in which case alerts and sounds are only made for 2nd and 3rd account not the first.
The only thing I can think off is that the 1st account has the focus when the program opens, would this cause this problem?
If a further message is received for the 1st account the alert and sound does work.

This is terrific! I have two mailboxes: my personal mailbox, and a mailing-list mailbox. I don't want to get alerted every time a new mailing-list shows up, and with Mailbox Alert, that's easy.
One suggestion: On the Mac, Thunderbird also updates the dock and command-tab icon with the number of new messages. I'd love it if Mailbox Alert could override that, so that I only see new messages in the folders I care about.

Been using Mailbox Alert for some time, and it's always worked great. But I've always wanted to play an individual wav file per sender or per subject line (like I used to do with Eudora filters). Since Thunderbird's filters can't do it, I'm now using a combination of Mailbox Alert and smcWavPlayer, which is a utility that I wrote that works along with Mailbox Alert. It allows you to specify specific wav files to be played upon receipt of an e-mail from a specific sender or with a specific subject line.

Great extension! Only, I'd much rather have a mailbox alert option in the filter definitions, such that I can have a filter rule that plays one sound for e-mail from John, another sound for e-mail from eBay, another for e-mail that contains a specific keyword in the subject line, whatever. I do not want to use different folders for all these mail sources. So please add a mailbox alert option to the "Perform these actions" list box in the "Filter Rules" dialog? Thanks!

Does what it says it does. The current thunderbird alert system is useless for anyone who receives a lot of mail. This extension is an excellent replacement.
A feature I would like to see in the future would be the ability to get alerts on receipt of mails from a specified list of addresses, or to specify a list of addresses you don't want to trigger a notification.

Would it be possible to allow the 'Execute a command' to open a specific file rather than application (eg a .txt file) At the moment you get a file not found error.

My TB had become inconsistent in it's built in 'new mail' audio alert & I have been unable to correct the problem, even building a new profile (pain in butt) didn't help.
I relied heavily on the audio alert when waiting for new mail to come in so it was very frustrating not to be able to trust that TB was doing just that.
Mailbox Alert have given me a different way to do what TB sometimes wasn't + all the other options that it offers. So far so good I just may 'not' go bald after all :-)
A big Thank You to Jelte Jansen for your work on this add-on. Your efforts are appreciated !

This is a giant leap forward because it allows so much more user input into how it operates (e.g., repositioning the alerts). Maybe it\'s just with my elderly Win98SE, but the main minus I\'ve encountered, but got around by sheer persistence: add-on does not seem to retain changes to its settings. Most often, it goes right back to original choices next time Tbird opens; sometimes the problem is an uglier bug - settings come up totally blank when the settings window is accessed, even though the alert itself still operates. Uninstalling and reopening Tbird to verify that the folder list\'s context menu item for Mailbox Alert is indeed gone produces a big surprise when you subsequently reinstall Mailbox Alert: those settings you were trying to get rid of? Still there! Annoying. Eventually, just by repetition, my \'edits\' have been enacted. \r\n\r\nHere\'s a tip, something I basically forced into existence: among the settings you can choose the icon that will appear in all alert boxes. On a hunch I edited an abstract-looking icon to be double the typical icon\'s size (so it\'s 64x64 pixels) and used this new mega-icon. Now the alert box is *much* bigger, with a generous in-your-face square of color I can spot from across the room. Hurray, my wish come true.

Good Idea! Perhaps an idea to improve it: Ability to play different sounds on e-mails per tag or even sender -like a sell phone can ring different for every number. Thanks!

This is a great step towards better alert functionality.
One way in which this could be made MUCH more useful would be integrating alert options (especially WAV files, like in Eudora!) into the FILTERS setup functions. We should really be able to choose custom alerts based on the criteria set in the filters, directly.

I finally got sick of getting a notification for emails that were actually "junk". This looks like it'll do quite nicely! Thanks for the plug-in.

First of all, this is a really nice addition to TB, thanks for your work. I have a couple of suggestions/feedback.
1) It would be great if clicking on the alert pop up would focus TB rather than creating a new instance of TB. Right now when I click the alert I get a second, third, etc.. instance of TB.
2) Probably more difficult, but it would be excellent if the pop up alert provided a message delete option within the alert window. This is one of the great features of Outlook 2007, I can immediately delete, or flag, a message directly from the alert pop up rather than having to go to TB.

This is a cool extension -- I miss my notification sounds from the Outlook days.
But it doesn't seem to work on Mac OS X (I've ditched Windows since Vista -- the last straw!) If unable to fix that (sorry, wish I could help), I think you can specify that it's not MacOS compatible in the add-ons directory. Have a great day!

This is the best add-on. I only want to receive notification for certain emails, as the others can wait. This is a great tool for increasing productivity - I'm not distracted by every single message I receive. Thanks so much!
