Tried Exporting from a Windows 7 32b T'bird 3.0.4. I have 6 Email accounts. Importing to a Windows 7 64b T'bird 3.0.4, the import failed by installing the rules to the wrong Email account.

Consider very carefully before using this add-on, it is very buggy and has limited functionality. I only use one Gmail account plus local folders and wanted to be reorganize all my Gmail into a systematic label/folder structure.
I had a bunch of filters using tags and exported them then edited the filters to folder/labels and ran it through my Gmail/All account. Apart from crashing my modem, this worked, but when I tried to re-import my old tag filters it would only import them to the local folders account. [scream!]
I found a work around by exporting from local folders and re-importing to Gmail. But if I had multiple accounts I do not think I would be a happy bunny.
Finally once the obvious bugs are fixed, I think an enhanced filter editing capability would turn this add-on from a liability into something really useful.

1) I have multiple mailboxes on multiple computers and import/export does not work correctly. Filters are imported but target folder is correct only in the first mailbox, folders on all the rest mailboxes are lost and thus filters are not useful
2) There are no search ability (or filter of filters based on term) e.f. a* to find all filters starting with letter a. Its pain to organize 100 filters.
However, i have been generally happy with this add-on, thanks!

For those looking for the 'import' feature - it's in the main Thunderbird menu under 'tools > import filters' :)

I should have read previous comments - it just never occurred to me that when you say "import" you actually mean "delete each and every one of your existing dozens of filters and replace them with the imported ones with no way of ever restoring the old ones"
Ugh. :(

Are there instructions for this add-on? Is there at least a text file describing exactly what "all messages with structure" means vs "all messages with folder", as well as other functions?

Argh, only does one account at a time. It would be nice if it would do all the accounts at once. Cuts down lots of time for people like me who have 5+ accounts.

There's a need to select the account. When you open message filters, 'filters for:' automatically selects the first account in thunderbird. Before installing this addon, thunderbird automatically selects the account in 'filters for:' you were accessing prior to clicking message filters.

Nicely added
the capability of adding the message filters to team share profiles.
This add-on simplified the system integration and makes it easier tio maintain.

A great tool! (If the import was to Merge instead of Replace, I'm sure someone else would think that was a stupid design; you can't please everyone.)
My need: I have 20 or so filters, with some of them having 20-40 conditions. I would like to have these larger filters sorted. I have tried editing the filter.dat file in several editors (Word, Writer, Notepad, Wordpad, etc.). I then extract each condition (OR) at the beginning of a line, manually sort each filter on the condition, write them back out and import the edited file. Unfortunately, T-bird takes a dim view of this, either as soon as the restart completes or on first view of the filters. The message is that the file MsgFilter.dat file is unreadable.
I have tried several combinations of format types (.doc, .txt, .rtf, etc.) and cr/lf, cr, lf, etc., without success.
I would very happy with this approach, even more so if your extension could start each OR condition on a new line for easy sorting. But until I understand how to edit the file, I'm stuck. Do I need to go to a hex editor to see what is going on and process accordingly?
Any help would be most appreciated.

any chance of getting this updated for thunderbird 3? would love to try out the new alpha builds, but my message filters are holding me back. really didn't want to have to create them all again.
