@do not want:
I see UI really doesn't matter to you, just the content. I'm, personally, making my Alt key more useful – using Alt+click to freeze (protect+lock) tabs. But never mind.

Perfect extension! But please, please, replace the default icon with a more nicer in the next version! I know I can change it, and even can use styles from userstyles.org, but… a good app should be nice! :)
@THE LAD:
Speed is important for power users. And one click is less than two.

I like this add-on and have had it on my laptop for at least a year. Last month I got an Acer One Aspire with Linus Linux, and added Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix as a 2nd OS. Firefox generally works fine, but some add-ons clash with the "Ubuntu Firefox modifications" add-on. In fact it prevents you adding icons to the Navigation Toolbar which negates using Compact Menu. I will report this to Ubuntu, but in the mean time if you are using Ubuntu and want Compact Menu 2, then disable Ubuntu Firefox mods.

Yes, or you could just turn off menubar >wiev>toolbars and just press Alt whenever you need it.

I will give it 5 as others have, then ask why ? You can open & close any bar with a simple right click on toolbar. Whats the point of having another icon & download.

I have installed this on five PC's; one of them seems to have the issue that Anarisuto mentioned. I do not get any of the buttons (icon nor text) in the Customize menu. This particular install may well have used several mods over the past year or two, so I'd guess that some previous mod I'd tried is why this isn't working properly. I have just now tried uninstalled FF, incl all the personal settings, and then deleted all firefox-related directories and files, reinstalled Compact Menu 2, and the problem persists. All the other machines I've put it on set it up just fine.

A great add-on for all netbook users. I have used "hide menubar", but this one no longer works. But yours is much more convenient with the stylish icon.
For me it's 5 stars easy, nice, convenient!
Sorry for my english.

Well, I had Compact Menu before. I uninstalled it and installed Compact Menu 2. No Compact Menu icon appears. The standard menu is still present.
CM2 shows as enabled in Tools/Add-ons. Also shows as enabled when I look at Help/Troubleshooting Information. I've worked with this for quite a while. Manually deleting the Compact Menu folder in Extensions, reinstalling, still no good. I even uninstalled Firefox, reinstalled Firefox, and again installed CM2. Still nothing changes. Only the standard menu exists. Strange.
Compact Menu icon appear in the Toolbar customize dialog?

Yeah, well it looks like it's fixed, they had the older version on this page, 3.1.1 was in 'other versions', downloaded with no problems. Thanks Millie. :)

The latest version is unavailable due to a download error.
The same issue exists on your own site.
Problem with the file.
Please fix.

It's a great addon, but trying to update it (or install it) fails with the following error:
Firefox could not install the file at
