It really does go down all the way to 1 line if you want. It's like discovering a unicorn munching grass with your kitties, I mean it's really cool :).

Why is this add-on asking for full permission/access to Thunderbird? Why is that necessary? Seems to me to be a breach of my privacy and security. I immediately removed the add-on for this reason.
Does anyone have userChrome code to replace the old compact header add-on?
Many thanks.

Excellent addon to reclaim screenspace in UI!
Thank you

Using TBird without this extension was painful to say the least - especially since I'm on a 13" laptop. This is a godsend. Thanks for your contribution to make other people's lives easier. Please do keep it up-to-date for those of us who still swear by TBird

THANK YOU!!! This restores the functionality of addon I've been using forever that Mozilla screwed up.

5-star, but broken again... With addon enabled the header area doesn't show at all, with addon disabled header area with 3 lines appears.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.18).No headers at all? You possibly clicked "Hide Headers".
Right click a message or the message list and select "Show Headers" near the bottom.

After the latest Thunderbird update, I was frustrated to find my old compact headers extension no longer active. I should be used to updates that break perfectly functional things by now. But it boggles the mind why Thunderbird can't implement a simple header toggle. This developer has brought functionality back to this program with this add-on. And he was great with answering concerns I had about the blanket permissions requirement. I don't generally review things, but these add-ons truly do increase my work productivity, and I am grateful! Thanks!

Thanks for this! Why the developers removed this I will never know. Thanks to this extension normality is restored.

This is now working well with TB78. Thanks for updating it.

Works very well and nicely replaces the old extension that TB killed.
A suggestion would be to also eliminate all the buttons in the header. Their functions are all available in the task bar anyhow, or by the delete key or various other approaches.
I did have trouble figuring out how to install an XPI file though. The TB developers keep moving things around so memories of how I did it last time or instructions one finds on the web to install XPI files frequently don't work anymore. Their desire to pretty up the TB UI is very counter productive IMHO. I prefer an old ugly one that works to a "new and improved" version of TB. That goes double for Windows 10 UI redesigns, but they don't listen either.

Thanks for recreating this in TB78, works like a charm.

Thanks for this add-on. I immediately searched for "compact headers" after the update to TB 78 and was relieved to find a working one.
@Nibinaear: Settings are available via the context menu of the angle bracket which shows the normal/compact mode state; so just click with the right mouse button on it.
@Firefox user f5aa39: I use Message Header Toolbar Customize (https://addons.thunderbird.net/de/thunderbird/addon/msghdr-toolbar-customize/) for this additionally.
@Eric March: You can give 5 stars now since it fully works in TB 78 and you can set one line or two lines.

I can't find the button to edit the settings so I can use single-line mode. Otherwise it works well.

I shall give 4 stars - when using Add-On in TB 78.x
Description and real abilities do not match and left me to trial-and-error. Yes, I can indeed do sttings toggling between one line and full heder, not ›reducing to 2‹.
This may be close to 5 stars.
But… Due non support of TB 78 by to me essentialAdd-Ons, I will stay on 68 as long as possible.
This Add-On fails on 68, but on intention I plan to have 68 as template when, having no chance, switching to 78.
Question, why offered to 68?

Could you even make it smaller (one line or none) ?
Thunderbird cannot be used without it... This great app wastes so much space...

Funktioniert! Schön, dass es so schnell einen Ersatz für das vorige Add-On gibt.

Good start!
Just need an option to hide whole pane to make maximum use of the screen space (not when working with message in separate tab).
Because msg information is in the list and buttons can be added into main toolbar.

Great Add-on, couldn't use Thunderbird without this!
