Ohne Funktion, schade
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.2.1-signed.1-signed).Bitte lies die Lösung für das Problem ("Troubleshooting") auf der *Englisch* seite: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/addon/dictionary-switcher/

love the add-on, it's pretty much the way i want it to behave (i would have simply put a list of domain names in relation to dictionary, user switch dictionary on a page, record the domain name and associate dictionary to automatically switch next time user get on the page)
i also confirm the add-on has been freezing quite consistently in the last few weeks, i am running aurora so i believe it's been like that since v21 if it helps

One of the most useful addons for firefox. I use it since years. As many users reported there were a problem with some dictionaries but the fix suggested in the description works perfectly. Thanks!

Nice and helpful addon but I often get freezes and have to stop the script after some time.
I have only two dictionaries installed (de_de and en_gb).
If that could be fixed I would give five stars.
Thanks
I experienced the freezes myself for a while, they both appeared and disappeared spontaneously after some FX upgrades. Unfortunately, that happened before I took over the manteinance and development, so the problem is hard to locate precisely :(

Imho the review is the right place to tell other users if an addon does not work 'plug-and-play'. If anyone likes to manually change files of dictionaries he's free to do so but it should not be the only way to make a plugin work. Also (like others before) I can't find the workaround in the 'description' of the plugin?! Maybe you have a different visualisation of the plugin page?Only one review describes how to tune the dictionaries - is this what you call the 'workaround'? (by Dvorak on Feb,27.)
Edit March,12: Sorry I neither can find the word 'troubleshooting' in any of your comments, nor a 'troubleshooting' section on the extension's page 'https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/dictionary-switcher/'Maybe we're really talking about different pages?
Edit again: Now I've found the clue! If I manually switch to "other language" "english (US)" then I can see your troubleshooting hints and even the note, how to contact you. Normally I automatically get forwarded to the german version of the page (and I assume for any other language than english(US) it's the same: we all can't see what you've written in the extension description! So that's why many non-english users are confused.
'Others before' had the excuse that I hadn't updated this page commenting the problem. If you found the note telling you what not to use a review for, you could have read two more lines, where it says 'Troubleshooting -> 1. If some of your installed dictionaries are not being displayed by the switcher:'.
As for manually changing files, there's no other way around a bug that is in Mozilla, not in the extension. But if you don't like doing so, then you're free not to.
Edit 0318: I see. I forgot Dao had written a German description -- Unfortunately my German is not up to par yet to update. Better to kill it off?

The issue where dictionaries don't show up in the list is due to changes in how Firefox handles dictionaries and it's not something the author can fix. However, you CAN manually correct the problem: find the location where Firefox stores your dictionaries (C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[profile_name]\extensions\) then for each dictionary that doesn't show up, find its folder (e.g. "en-gb@...") and edit the install.rdf file. Look for the line "<em:type>64</em:type>" and delete it. Restart Firefox and your dictionaries will be detected properly.
If like me you want to rename the text display which currently uses locale, you can also do so manually. Look for the "dictionaries" subfolder in the folder of the dictionary you want to rename and rename the files you find. For instance, "fr-modern" becomes simply "FR" for me. If a single dictionary has more than one file (most have .dic and .aff), rename both and make sure their names are the same.
I've been in contact with the developer and renaming as well as other display improvements are in fact being developed.
(My original review gave this only four stars due to a graphical glitch. Further investigation revealed that it was caused by a custom theme instead.)

Top Add-On until since the latest TB update it is not working anymore (dictionaries not listed in add-ons do not show up). I miss it very strongly!!! Little feature but perfect if you use 2 or more languages. Would love if someone able to do this would care. Danke. Grazie.

Wirklich schade!!!

Leider auch das Problem:
- frz. Wörterbuch unter Erweiterungen
- alle anderen unter Wörterbücher nicht. Nur im Kontextmenü verfügbar.
Somit momentan ohne Update nutzlos, leider. Und somit nur 1 Stern.
Nutze FF 18.02

Same problem here :( Are there not plans of fixing it?
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.2.1-signed.1-signed).An extension can't fix what is broken in Mozilla. However' there's an easy workaround. Please read the updated English description and don't use reviews for bug reports or requests.

I used it for years and it worked VERY WELL (5 stars). But now since the dictionary feature change in firefox (coming with version 17 I think) the switcher icon in the add-on bar does not hold any installed dictionaries any more and the dictionaries can not be switch via the add-on bar icon any longer. The context menu switcher still works. SO PLEASE UPDATE IT.
5.3. Update: : The author, MrWarper, told me to read the updated description. Which description he means is not clear to me. Online here in the add-on page I can not find anything about a solution or updated description. The fix which has been posted, does not work. Also at his homepage I can not find anything about a description or solution!
Edit 18.3: I didn't *tell you* anything. I *replied to your review* which is a very indirect to "communicate". If you want me to help, please contact me via email (as I stated everywhere).
If you choose to sit there expecting me to read every review, let alone whatever edits you do later, you're going to waaaaaaait for long -- if you get anything at all.
Also, I don't have a 'homepage' linked from here...

Extremely useful addon to switch quickly between spell check languages.

The new dictionaries aren't used any more. I've added the "Dutch" dictionary and it's not being picked up anymore..
Please fix this.
which is now described in the extension page. There's always been a note from the author stating to report to him instead of using reviews to complain about bugs and whatnot. Please next time do so.

This is a very useful add-on. However in new versions of Firefox the dictionaries are not longer recognised. A fix would be great and very much appreciated.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.2.1-signed.1-signed).Also, next time please contact the author for bug reports and requests before using the reviews for that.

This is a great add-on. It works fine.
Now the dictionary's got updated and the have now the type64. Now the are no longer treated as add-on and the Wörterbuch-Manager never found the dictionary's.
Please fix this stupid issue. Thanks.

Even though compatibility is advertised for TB10 only, the extension used to work fine through TB16. But the recent dictionary update did create a new category 'Dictionaries' in Add-on Manager. It seems this did break Dictionary Switcher. I'd hope it will be updated soon. It's quite handy and I do use it a lot in Thunderbird.

Useful extension! But distracting when used in conjunction with the extension Barlesque. Could you add the option - do not display language in the status bar?

It works, mostly. I'd just prefer if there was an setting to let it ignore en-US spelling (which can't be uninstalled) and replace it with en-GB.

Works like a charm!
A shortcuts to switch between languages when auto fails would be perfect!

Thanks for making available this useful add-on.
Works great with the latest releases of Thunderbird and Firefox once you know how to activate and use it.
Both in Thunderbird and Firefox you have to right click the pane you are writing in and select the proper alternatives.
Awesome. Works like charm.
Thanks again.
