A standard feature that should have been present in Thunderbird. Luckily, this add-on comes to the rescue, and does the job well. I also like the fact that it does not mess around with the mail, and is a true "redirect".

Very useful for me. Does exactly what it should. Thank you!

For years now this add-on has used "bounce" in the description, as in "Allow to redirect (a.k.a. "bounce") mail messages to other recipients." "Bouncing" has a very clear meaning in English tech circles when discussing email. It means bouncing back to the original sender.
This add-on doesn't do that, and it's very confusing for people searching for an add-on that does bounce. You can look at the previous reviews and find others that have installed this add-on, only to be disappointed that it doesn't do what they think it should do based on the description.
The developer needs to change the description to remove the word "bounce" completely and save us all a lot of time and confusion.
"bounce" was also used in mutt mail client. That's why, years ago, I put this term in the description.
Now mutt use "remail" rather than bounce. We will change the description in the next update. Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks, this is a much needed Add-On; providing a feature that should been in the stock T'Bird issue.
One small detail in need of attention is that no redirect option appears in the 'Perform These Actions' drop down in the 'Filter Rules' dialogue

I mostly wish to redirect (bounce) an email to the sender, but the senders email address does not appear in the box, I have to insert it myself, a message that the mail was not required could also be added.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.5).Sorry, but this extension is not for this purpose. To bounce back letting the sender think the address is unknown, would require complete other logic (and doesn't have much use for spammers anyway) and changing the message by saying the mail was not required is also not according to the specs of redirecting. You should use a normal reply message for that.

Muy buena !...

Hey, this is a great addon. It would be only greater if there were an additional button when reading message to redirect-to.
EDIT: Thanks!
Hi,
You can customize either the toolbar or the message header box of a reading window/tab to show the Redirect button. See also the screenshots as displayed here on the add-ons site.

This is one of the core functions of a good mail client. Thanks a lot to the developers for this great add-on.

This is a great addon and provides a function that is vital to business users. It worked fine with Daily 35, but I updated today to Daily 36 and the Redirect button works but there is no message to redirect and cannot assign a recipient. I think this same scenario happened somewhere back around version 24. I know this post may be a bit premature, but since it worked fine with 35, I wanted to share my experience. I also, in realizing how important I value this addon, just made a contribution and encourage all users to do so. If we want this feature to continue, let's all support it. I should have done this years ago. Thanks.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.4). This user has a previous review of this add-on.Thank you for your review and for your contribution! Development of this add-on doesn't rely on contributions (otherwise I would have quit long ago :-)), but it's always nice to see reward for your work, both in terms of a positive review as in a contribution.
This problem was caused by bug 1001090 being solved in Thunderbird 35 and I have fixed it in Mail Redirect 0.8.5...

Now, since TB V31.x (Maybe earlier, dont know) the Redirect Button was inactive, greyd out.
Cant press the Redirect Button.

I couldnt find a Way to answer below your Answer.
I meant the Button in the redirect Window
and as you mentioned, i have a default recipient,
and it worked after i have deleted the default recipient.
Thank You for this Hint !
Hi pros,
Thank you for your review!
There's a Redirect button on the main window, to open the redirect window and there's a Redirect button on the redirect window to send the message. Which one doesn't work?
The latter is grayed out when you have default recipients, but that bug should be fixed in Mail redirect 0.8.4.

Version 0.8.4 has been approved a few days ago, so you can use the default recipients again the way you used to do...

0.8 still works nicely, but it messes up the status bar and renders it unusable. – Find me on Twitter @GerZah and I'll send you screenshots. If you want me to test beta versions, let me know.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8).Hi GerZah,
This problem is now fixed in version 0.8.3. It seems that the code to check if the Mail Redirect button should be enabled was called to soon during start-up, causing this problem. I've added an extra check and this should work again.
You can download version 0.8.3 from the developers page or from the mailredirect website.

Great idea. I installed it but when I sent a test email to my Thunderbird adress there was nothing in my sent mail folder and no emails were sent to the adresses I set the addon to forward the emails to. Why isn't it working??
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.8).Redirected messages are only saved when you save sent messages for the account with which you redirect. This is also shown as a tooltip in the options dialogue of Mail Redirect.
You can check your account settings under Tools → Account Settings → <account> → Copies & Folders.
Also not all ISP's save redirected messages. Especially Gmail doesn't do this, because the redirected message has the same Message-ID as the original message and Gmail doesn't allow more than one message withe the same Message-ID. If you want to see your redirected or other sent messages with Gmail, you'll have to configure your account to store the sent messages under your Local Folders…
With the information you filed in the review I cannot tell why the redirected message wasn't received at the address you send it to. Please file a ticket on the website or send a mail to the mailing list to get more support on this issue.

I have this extension installed since ever ;-)
But I was never successfull with redirect of messages to lists and unfortunately I have many of them being sysadmin :-(.
I followed the suggestion of the developer a couple of post below to put the name of the list in between <> but in my hands it doesn't work. A message of error appears.
BTW today an update to mail reedirect version 7.7 was installed automatically on my computer (with icons fitting the TB standard theme). The test reported above was done also with this last version whichi is not present neither here nor in the usual developer page.
Wher is located now? TIA

Hi,I'm sorry but I moved the website to mailredirect.sourceforge.net just before the latest update and had forgotten to update it here. This is now fixed, so you should be able to find the mailredirect website with the latest version again...Can you please file a bug or mail the error you get when sending to a list to me?Onno

Hallo,
Viele Grüße

This is a great product we use daily now that we have switched to Thunderbird. But we are unable to enter a list nickname into the redirect handler. We can enter nicknames of individuals and redirect the e-mail, but we cannot enter a list name (eg Staff - which has a list of all staff e-mails). It wants the staff list to turn into a simple e-mail address. We are using 0.7.6.12 on TB 17.0.5. The list nickname works just fine in composing a regular email. Any suggestions? Thanks.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.4).Hi Dale,
There was an error with lists only being recognized when they were in the primary address book (Personal Address Book). This should be fixed in version 0.7.8...

Sorry, but the extension on addons.mozilla.org isn't updated anymore. Go to the extension's homepage and download Mail Redirect from the Installation page.

This extension has contributed to my company's (almost) total migration away from mutt and all other command-line Unix-like clients to Thunderbird. It is one of the single biggest productivity improvements in Thunderbird.
I remain baffled that redirect/bounce is not an integral feature of Thunderbird--but I _am_ an email dinosaur who started with electronic mail on an IBM mainframe in 1980. I don't want to have to re-write tens of mail handlers on six different platforms to parse MIME attachments (or worse, try to find the old message boundaries in non-MIME-attachment forwarded messages).
The _only_ drawback to Mail Redirect is that it doesn't install in new Thunderbird 15.0.1 installations. My older, upgraded Thunderbird clients automagically update to 0.7.6.11--but a fresh 15.0.1 installation claims the add-on is not compatible with 15.0.1.
