Thank you for this add-on it is useful when you are sending to many addresses.
It will be perfect if:
- The email addresses are drag-and-droppable like in Outlook or Gmail. That way you can very easily move some addresses from To to Cc, etc.
- Like Outlook/Gmail, have a delete button on each email address. So you can remove some addresses very easily.
Thanks,
and it won't be perfect :-(
because it would be too complicated to handle addresses as objects in the existing window. I tried... and it would require to rewrite the entire compose window !
If you really want that feature, you can install addon "conversation" (https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/thunderbird/addon/gmail-conversation-view/) : the 'quick reply' mode behaves just like you want !

hello, Bonjour
(traduction par Google)
TB31 no longer accepts copy / paste from Excel address list that ds empty box!
See bugzilla https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1124124
(But Thunderbird 24 accepts the copy / paste)
See the discussion http://forums.mozfr.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=122253
MRCompose either!
MRCompose sends a message to the empty addresses!.
Error message: An error occurred while sending mail The mail server responded:." 5.1.3 Bad recipient address syntax ".
Please check the recipient's address "" and try again
Would it be possible to correct this?
Would require the extension removes empty addresses before sending.
thank you

Bonjour
TB31 n'accepte plus les copier/coller de liste d'adresses excel qui ont des case vides!
Voir bugzilla https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1124124
(Mais Thunderbird 24 accepte ce copier/coller)
Voir discussions http://forums.mozfr.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=122253
Merci
Jm
Hi,
As you said, it's a Thunderbird change, it has nothing to do with mrc compose.
Mrc compose only takes care of editing recipients. Then when user press "Send", it's Thunderbird that *really* sends mails.
Mrc compose helps user select recipients, but user is free to type what he wants in the textfields : so it's up to him to type correct emails adress.
Cleaning data is always a very difficult thing to implement : it depends of the state of the bogus data,
so it can't be done in a "one step" process, or a "one fits all" cleaning.
So you can *not* be sure what Thunderbird done when it was doing some cleaning! Maybe it removed some correct recipients ?
IMHO, it's much more sane that no automatic cleaning is done now : it allows you to know exactly the recipients of yours mails.
What you describe is not a mrc compose bug. It may be an idea for a future enhancement (ie add some tools to provide some cleaning of email).
For exemple, "replace line feed by comma" or "replace two commas by one". But it'll user responsability to call them.
The real answer to your problem is to provide only clean email data to Thunderbird/Mrc compose.

Bonjour,

Fantastic extension. The way Thunderbird forces one address per line is absurd. Why Thunderbird doesn't use this style of adding multiple addresses per line separated by comma is beyond me.
The only thing I didn't like about this extension is the phrase "enter one or multiple addresses..." that appears in the "TO" box in new messages. It goes away once you start typing in the box but I found the phrase an unnecessary aesthetic intrusion, as I prefer a cleaner, blank interface. So I edited the XPI file to remove the phrase. Now it is perfect.
Very well done!!

I also had the same problem as reported by ezrider with TB 31. Michel told me about the fix and after a few hours waiting, I did go to Version Information down at the page and selected to see complete version history. There I was able to download version 1.6.1. and it works again as it suppose to be, so I am very happy with the fast support! Thanks Michel!!

random crash when query LDAP

I'll look at that report.
Please use the support email for such feedback : it'll be much easier for me to ask you some complements. Thanks.

I really appriciate for all of your effort. It works well on my windows system with the latest TB, version 24. However, autocomplete feature does not work with LDAP. Besides, I'm not able to find the option related LDAP from "MRC Compose Option" page.
My software is icedove 17.0.10 on Debian 7.
Does this addon support LDAP on Linux?
Regards
Thanks for your feedback !
In order to answer your question, can you send me en email (use support email indicated in the right column) ?

Great add-on. Just what I needed.
It works without any problem with TB24. To remember the settings for CC and BCC, just check the corresponding choices in the "fields appearance" tab in the MRC Compose Options in the Add-ons manager. It is true that changing these options in the compose window is not working even with TB24.1.0.
Glad you like it !
Changing options in the compose window is only temporary, just for the current window. The only way to have the options permanent is through the settings panel. It's not a bug, it's a feature ;-)

Was 5 Star. Before TB 23 or TB24 working OK.
But now: It does not remember Show CC and Show BCC settings when creating a new mail. When I select Show BCC it does not show the BCC emailaddress I set in the TB account settings. Now 1 star
Which version of TB are you using ?
MRC Compose has been tested on TB24, not on TB25 or more as they are pre-releases.

Just what is needed and thanks for it :)
But ... the usual drop-down list of matching addresses as the address is typed does not appear.
With the error console open, as soon as a single letter is typed into the To field:
Timestamp: 03/11/13 11:14:33
Error: NS_ERROR_XPC_CANT_MODIFY_PROP_ON_WN: Cannot modify properties of a WrappedNative
Source File: chrome://mrc_compose/content/mrc_compose.js
Line: 1719
Same behaviour with all other add-ons disabled
Versions:
Thunderbird 17.09
OS: Slackware64 14.0
Sorry for posting a bug report in a review but I could not find out how else to do it.
Hi,
Andreas Wagner (who developed the LDAP part) confirmed that the problem is related to LDAP and TB17 (it's ok with TB24). He's working on modifications. Cheers.

This add-on is great, but alas it stopped working with TB 24:The "Send" button doesn't get enabled when I enter addresses in the To or CC field. This used to work in older versions.
I disabled all other plugins except MRC compose: problem persists.
I disabled MRC compose plugin: problem vanishes.
There's one workaround: write email, save to Drafts folder, open mail again from the Drafts folder, send. (The send button is enabled when you open a draft). However, this is too much work.
Thanks for your feedback !
The "Send" button problem is identified and will be corrected in version 1.6. It will be available in few days.

Bonjour,
J'ai le même souci que "ezrider", à savoir qu'avec MRC Compose activé, je n'ai pas accès au bouton "Envoyer" lors que j'écris ou que je transfère un email. Ce bouton est grisé;
Désolé d'avoir été si long !!
Bon courage et merci pour cet addon

Hi ,This is a great plugin which should be default feature in Thunderbird. I have been using this plugin for more than three months but suddenly from september 15 autocomplete of mail id feature is not working. I am using the Ubuntu Thunderbird 13.0.1 is it possible to fix this issue.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5).Thanks for your feedback.
Can you perform some checks ?
- what is your OS ?
- what is the version of mrc compose ?
- open the "Error console" from the "Tools" menu, then create a new message and try to enter a recipient. Then if there is new lines in the error console, just send them.

This is a great add-on, that corrects one of Thunderbird's most evident flaws in the "Compose" window. I've wished for a long time for something like this (which should have been Thunderbird's default, actually) and now I can finally manage recipients for my messages in a much more efficient way. I would have rated this add-on with five stars if it weren't for a small bug that I've just come across. Hopefully, it can be corrected by the developer. The symptom is this: every time I try to send a message, for some reason Thunderbird complains that "There is no TO recipient, only CC/BCC". This is obviously not the case, as I can see that there is indeed a TO recipient. And if I ignore the warning and "send it anyway", the message is sent without issues. I don't know what is triggering this warning. I'm running Thunderbird 17.0.8 (locale es-AR) on Windows XP (Windows also in Spanish). By the way, the warning text is displayed in English, which is neither my Thunderbird's nor my Windows' language, so I'm guessing the warning is caused by this (or maybe another?) add-on
(UPDATED with bug symptoms and system information)
BTW, I just tested the bug described in the comment below mine (the bug with the attachments) and I can't reproduce it. I'm not seeing the attachment being incorrectly added to message #2
---------------
UPDATE 2:
Eureka! I've found the cause of the bug that I was experiencing. This add-on is found "Not guilty" and therefore its rating increased to some well-deserved 5 stars :)
The "guilty" add-on is Flexible Identity (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/flexible-identity/). It has an option that displays a warning "if there is no TO (only CC/BCC) recipients". Unfortunately, it seems that these two add-ons (MRC Compose and Flexible Identity) are mutually incompatible. Flexible Identity simply doesn't work when MRC Compose is being used :(
I hope this incompatibility can be fixed, because I'd hate having to choose between one or the other.
Thanks for your feedback !
I understand how annoying is what you describe, but I just tested your test case and had no problem replying.
Can you list other addons installed in your Thunderbird ?
And thanks for testing attachments too !

MRC Compose automatically adds any attachment you used in a previous email to the next (current) email. It is a bug, as there is no way to turn this off. I can't figure out how to report this as a bug, which is also a bug.
The developer replied, but the link given has no entry point to report the bug.
Here is how to create the problem:
1) add an attachment (a#1) to an email (e#1)
2) send email e#1
3) create email e#2
4) email e#2 automatically has attachment a#1
Hi,I'm very surprised by the problem you described : as a everyday user for nearly a year, I never had such a bug with attachments. So, please report it in the new public repo :https://github.com/michelRenon/mrc_compose/And please explain every single step necessary to reproduce it, otherwise I won't be able to identify it.Michel
Update on 24 aout 2013 :
In github.com, you can create issues, via the "issues" tab on the right, then click on "New issue".
You have to have a github account.
I reproduced the steps you described, but I had no problems with attachments.
Then I checked again source code and you can be sure that MRC Compose does no changes on attachments.
It only read/write message headers (from, to, reply...).
Even in xul file, nothing is changed for attachments.
So, it seems to me that your problem is related to another part, maybe another extension ?
Can you list your configuration ? (OS, list of extensions)
Michel

Thank you Michel for this addon, I had issues with sending emails via Thunderbird, as it is easy to forget to change the recipient destination type. With this addon, at least I have the destination types pre-completed.
Thank you again.

Great addon, it will become excellent if it added to look into LDAP server and it will become more easy to use if can highlight the contact to remove entire contact with one back space.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1).Thanks for your feedback.
For LDAP support, there is something coming ! It's done by Andreas Wagner.
For the second suggestion, I have to say that it's too complicated : I looked other mail software (gmail and yahoo) to understand their code and it would require a complete rewrite of MRC_Compose ! Well, it would be possible if I had a lot of free time...
PS : sorry for my very late answer, but I had problem with mozilla website : I had mail notification about new reviews, but I couldn't see/answer them in the website. It seems it's ok now.

Michel Renon - thanks for your reply to my review. I can't figure out how to reply to your reply, so I'm entering a new review.
Your drag 'n drop suggestion works just fine and meets my needs very well. I find the Contacts Slider to be very useful when sending email to multiple recipients. Sometimes I don't know all the people I want to include so autocomplete is not as useful. With the slider I can review all my contacts to jog my memory for who I want to include.
Thanks again.
