I am so happy to have discovered this plugin! It works very well with Nextcloud.
One thing I would like to see improved is bulk operation, and in particular with regard to the categories. It would be nice to be able to assign a catgeory (or several) to a set of selected contacts (or to remove assigned categories). Idem for other fields - like add the same value for country to selected contacts. This could be done from the menu, for example.
Another observation: when importing my contacts from gmail, all URL fields had a wrong entry, starting with "https\://", so I had to edit them all manually. Not sure if this is a mistake from geoogle, or a problem of the plugin. But again, would be great to have a mechanisme like search&replace all for all entries.
Keep up the great work!
Chris
it's possible to add categories to many contacts by drag and drop... for the rest you're right, I will try to add tis for next year

Great add-on! Easy to set up and works smoothly. Carddav support makes Thunderbird usable at last. The one change I'd like to see is an option for displaying the notes field on the General tab. All of my notes are brief, and there is plenty of room on the General tab.
Keep up the great work!
in vertical Layout there is a lot of place for the notes but not in classic layout... that's why this is splitted into two tabs... I will think about this : vertical layout should become the default...

That TB has lacked adequate/modern support for CardDAV-based networked-addressbooks has been a deal-breaker for literally YEARS now. I have trouble wrapping my head around why it's such a conceptual stretch that sharing calendars & addressbooks is a critical functionality & a basic criterion for adoption -- especially in the Enterprise, small or large. There's been endless discussion that it's "complicated & hard" and that there are "no resources" available to do it natively ...
Maybe so. But this app, and this one dev, have elegantly & capably addressed the problem. This extension works REALLY well for CardDAV support. Very much unlike the one 'other solution' that's out there, this extension works with latest/current versions of TBird, and -- most importantly -- the dev is incredibly responsive, interested in user feedback, and clever/efficient with fixes & new features. And a nice guy, to boot!
Sure, the extension will benefit from additional capabilities & tweaks; complete seamless integration in TB, and possible complete replacement of AddressBook would be great, IMO! I'd bet that there are likely internal architectural issues that could use some refactoring, etc. But all that's ONLY ever going to happen once an excellent, functional basis exists to build upon.
And CardBook, frankly, fits the bill.
In an ideal world, I'd love to see this become a commercial supported extension (cref QuickFolders for a working model. Or at least one that works for me) that I can point companies & colleagues at for a supported, reliable solution. But ultimately that's a decision for the dev; and making that decision in the 'uncertainty' around TB's future plans/direction is understanably dicey.
In the end, I just hope this extenstion 'continues on'. & to the dev -- simply -- thanks a lot, and lots of luck!

When I got in contact with Philippe this afternoon, I wasn't even thinking that there was a minor possibility to get my sync problems with a baïkal address book solved for… today. This guy is truly amazing: 6 mails in 2 hours and 2 trial versions to fix all my troubles.
Hopefully, other users encountering freezing problems after they synchronise with a server hosting baïkal (0.4.6) will shortly get the updated xpi as I could test it today.

A great, modern replacement for TB's completely outdated address book, at last !
I only see 2 possible improvements : should become the standard address book in TB ;), and should use the same contact editor dialog layout as Evolution :).
Great job, congratulations to the developer !
Note : I've tested it on TB 45.4.0 on Ubuntu MATE 16.10 with 300+ contacts from a SabreDAV server.
may you send me a printscreen ? (cardbook.thunderbird@gmail.com)

Hi
This add-on is very well done and handy.
Unfortunately I cannot use it, because it slows Thunderbird down, almost freezing it. This occurs with only a few contacts.
I tried 2 versions of TB : 38.2 and 45.4
and 2 versions of CardBook : 13.8 and 14.5
I'm on Linux : OpenSUSE 13.1, Linux kernel 3.11.10
Thanks for your work anyway.
Hi
I'm very interested by this problem, may you contact me here : cardbook.thunderbird@gmail.com
for your problem, it is almost certainly linked to the Thunderbird preferences : Display/Advanced/Display/Show only display name for people in my address book
EDIT : problem is solved with CardBook 15.1

One of the most important Addons to migrate users from Outlook / Exchange to Thunderbird. Finally synchronisation of contacts between more devices using CardDAV got easy!
Addon is always improving (see changelog).
Thanks for your great work!

Bringt viele Verbesserungen gegenüber dem Standard-Adressbuch in Verbindung mit Owncloud (via fehlerbehaftetem SOGO)

This addon allows us to synchronize contacts between local Thunderbird and remote owncloud version of contacts.
The Sogo connector does not work anymore, so that this one is mandatory!
Thank you very much for this addon which works very well!
Best regards

Philippe deserves a big cake, and I'm going to donate you the money for it. Can you please add the NOTE field to the address book cards front-end? Thank you so much for all your love and commitment!
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (13.7).Hi
thanks :O)... the NOTE field should be displayed as a tab... if it isn't displayed, add it in CardBook prefs (second tab)

Just wanted to add to the praise for this add-on: It's absolutely fantastic! Works like a charm, both as a replacement of the standard TB address book, and as a mean to use CardDav. A must-have!
I had tested it a year ago, without being convinced, but the amount of progress and development is truly impressive. Now I'm using it everyday as my only address book...
Congrats, and keep up the good work!

Tired of the issues with the address book within Thunderbird I tried lots of other software ( and destroyed my contacts Database in the process, without knowing....). Could not get it to work..... In the end Philippe pointed out to me that the issue was generated by NextCloud database. After manually correcting 135 contacts (Pffffff) Cardbook worked better that I expected. Get It Use It!

A really nice and easy to use carddav lpugin. I use it with my nextcloud server and it works like a charme. Only if you have a dark theme then the addressbook is not usable.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (13.1).I've tried the "Dark fox" theme and I've no problem... may you please describe the problem on this email : cardbook.thunderbird@gmail.com

Excellent addOn!
feature request:
errormessage if connection via SSH not possible
connection to https://domain.tld/... don't works (without any error message), but connection to https://www.domain.tld/... works.
Both URLs are properly covered with SSL-certificate.
It would be nice to have a errormessage for this.
Thunderbird console says:
NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI: Component returned failure code: 0x804b000a (NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI) [nsIIOService2.newURI]

Installed OK - using remote owncloud server, starts to download contacts then seemed to get "stuck" syncing - tried an earlier version and it did the same
After the developer suggested I emailed him with a log the issue was solved within a few hours!! (it was an issue my end with a couple of rogue contacts..not the softwares fault!)
Very impressed with the functions / speed and support!
Integrates beautifully with my owncloud server and Thunderbird addressbook - does exactly as it says on the tin :D :D
Thanks

Bonjour,
